## How it works

All base ranges sourced from CNY Fertility, 'Surrogacy Cost – The True Price of Using a Surrogate Mother', published 2022-03-11, accessed 2026-11-01. URL: https://www.cnyfertility.com/surrogacy-cost/

CNY Fertility is a US fertility clinic that publishes transparent, line-item surrogacy cost estimates. Their figures: agency fee $15K–$50K; surrogate base $35K–$70K; reimbursements $0–$40K+; legal $6K–$10K; clinic $7K–$50K; donor eggs $9,995–$26,500.

Insurance estimates based on industry surveys: surrogacy-exclusive ACA policies $15K–$30K/year; covered plans have deductibles/copays $5K–$15K.

Life insurance ($250K surrogate beneficiary + $100K IP beneficiary) ~$500–$1,500; disability/lost wages ~$1K–$3K.

Escrow: independent agent $1K–$3K. Travel: mileage $0.56/mi, per diem $75/day, lodging actuals.

Contingency 10–15% recommended by financial advisors for ART journeys.

The calculator sums your inputs and applies the contingency percentage. Low/high estimates apply -15%/+25% to reflect typical variance.

This tool does not include: international legal fees, immigration costs, multiple failed transfers beyond contingency, or lost income for intended parents.

> For planning only, not a quote or financial advice. Actual costs depend on your agency, clinic, surrogate, insurance, and state. Confirm all figures with your providers. Consult a financial advisor before committing.

## Questions

### Why is the range so wide ($58K–$220K+)?

Agency choice ($15K vs $50K), surrogate location (insurance costs), surrogate experience (higher comp), insurance coverage (excluded vs covered), number of transfers, PGT-A, donor eggs, multiples, and complications all shift the total significantly.

### Does this include the surrogate's lost wages?

Yes, if you include it in 'Surrogate reimbursements'. CNY Fertility notes lost wages up to $5,000 cap for surrogate and $2,000 for spouse/companion.

### What if I use a family member or friend as surrogate?

Costs drop significantly: no agency fee ($0), minimal base compensation ($0–$25K reimbursements only). Total typically $13K–$70K (CNY Fertility 2022). Legal fees still apply ($6K–$10K).

### Are clinic fees the same everywhere?

No. CNY Fertility lists ~$7,600 base (IVF + stim meds + transfer meds) vs national average ~$15,500. High-cost clinics can exceed $30K. Always ask for the clinic's self-pay price list.

### Can I finance this?

Yes. Lenders like LendingClub Patient Solutions, CapexMD, Future Family, Sunfish offer fertility loans. Employer benefits (Carrot, Progyny, Maven, Kindbody) may cover parts. Grants exist (Baby Quest, Cade Foundation, Footsteps for Fertility); award amounts and deadlines vary, so check each programme's official page.
